Season 11 was Sandy Zimmerman’s third time on American Ninja Warrior. In seasons 8 and 9, she hadn’t made it past the second obstacle. Zimmerman was injured for season 10, but was hopeful about this year. “So this is my first season back where I’m healthy and it feels amazing to have everything working,” she told ANWN after her historic run.

And everything was working, quite well in fact, for Zimmerman this season. She took her time at the Seattle/Tacoma City Qualifiers and her hard work paid off. The (then) 42-year-old became the first mother to beat the Warped Wall and hit a buzzer.

Watch her run in the Qualifiers below:

In the City Finals, Zimmerman went out on the 8th obstacle, the Floating Monkey Bars. She finished in 13th place overall, missing out on Vegas by one spot.

According to her website: “My American Ninja Warrior journey started about 4 years ago, and it didn’t take long before the kids and I were hooked and fell in love with the sport. My family and I travel all over the country visiting ninja gyms and competing in ninja league competitions. In July 2019, our entire family got to compete in UNAA worlds. My kids have also had the opportunity to compete on American Ninja Warrior Junior. I have had so much personal growth from this sport and love to share it with others, so when I’m not teaching, I run ninja classes in the backyard where we have over 40 obstacles.”

Since her epic run, Zimmerman the P.E. teacher has been involved in local fundraisers, charity events, parties, and team-building events. She has brought in more than $20,000 for causes that are near and dear to her heart in Spokane, Washington. She’s been on the Ninjababes podcast, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and has even been made into a cookie.

We can’t wait to see what she does in season 12!
